Welcome to the first edition of The Kinder Beat, a publication from The Cool To Be Kind Project. In a nutshell, this initiative began at the end of 2017 when I hid 50 kindness cards in random places, hoping the finder would be encouraged to do something kind for another person. I had no expectation of response which made the 32 emails I did receive so much sweeter. What was only going to be a focus during the festive season has become so much more, blessed to have had the opportunity to tell my story through various media outlets.
I have witnessed amazing acts of kindness; a man who decided to take a homeless gentleman to lunch, a shop owner who planted a rose for a gentleman whose wife passed away, and a child washing his Mum’s car without being asked. These actions became messages; a reminder of our common humanity and responsibility to care for one another. Even today, I stumbled across a story out of Canada where a young man, Ryan Shtuka, has been missing since 17 February 2018, with thousands of people reaching out to the family and helping in their own way. If that’s not people being kind, I don’t know what is!
The Kinder Beat is a way of summarising what we have been up to: to serve as a reminder that being kind does not have to be complicated. Nobody has it easy. An act of kindness, especially one that is unexpected, can make your day. Being kind not only brings joy to the one who receives it but has the power to affect all those who witness them as well.
To guide you on your kindness journey, I share with you THE KINDNESS MANIFESTO BY KELLY EVEREST.
